It's been a long and sad goodbye, as most of our friends have already moved. We will miss the friends we made here terribly. We will miss having family nearby. The last month before a PCS is filled with "lasts." Last time we eat at TacoLus, Yogaberry, North Beach Bistro. Last time we go to the zoo with the Shoesmiths & Yaya. Last time we walk on the beach with Charlie and Mashon. Etc. It makes me sad think about "lasts" but it's impossible to not do it. But while it is very sad, we do know that we have made lasting friendships that we can treasure.
I think this time around Jacksonville won us over a little bit. A little. And Jacksonville beach that is.
The good thing about Hawaii is that Justin's sponsor and Duane Verke are welcoming us at the airport. Moving to a new place with no friends and family has been really hard in the past. This time we already have a few friends and Dean and Trish Kiyohara (Mom's cousins) live minutes from the base.
So for now blog world... I'm going to go enjoy my last night in the 80's decor. And my last east coast ocean sunrise from the bed! Life on the beach was good to us.
Aw, Jen, such a sweet and moving post. Leaves me w/ a sense of wistfulness myself. Just something universal about the experience you shared.
ReplyDeleteJacksonville (Beach) and its inhabitants--people and non-people alike--are sure to miss you guys back!
