first hawaiian blog.

Aloha.

The time change is going to take some getting used to... I almost call and text people on the east coast and I realize it's like 2 am.  (At least now I won't wake up Aunt April in Spokane)

Things have been a little rough here, but they seem to be getting better. Mika and I were sick, Mika has had a really hard time with the move this time.  She's cried a lot and asked for "home" and "toys"... so what's a mom to do? Justin and I drove into a very crowded part of the island and went to walmart. It was packed with people Christmas shopping, but there was still an Aloha spirit to the place. People were really polite. Justin stuck out like a sore thumb among all the Hawaiians. :)

It feels like we had a million errands to run... but we are set up for a short while in our concrete "villa"  It kinda reminds me of a college dorm. It does have an ant problem. Today, when I was bathing Mika an ant was crawling on my glasses. We borrowed a christmas tree from Lindsey's house and it feels a little homey in our living area now. Our cars made it safely and Tamara drove us to pick them up.  Thank goodness for friends!

It feels a little sad to be so far away from everyone at Christmas time.  As we drive around the island running errands, it's starting to really sink in that we are in Hawaii.  Mika got to see a gigantic rainbow today and loves driving through the tunnels through the mountains. The gate to base has helicopters and airplanes and she loves it and "wants to touch it."

The house hunt is a frustrating story. We aren't sure how long the wait is, but it could be August to live on base.  We are looking in town hoping to get lucky, but then we drove by the 0-4 housing and my jaw dropped.  The view is so incredible, it might be worth the hassle.  It's still a lottery to get the ones with the view, but it's just unreal.  So, the hunt begins and the wishing and hoping continues.

Tomorrow we are going to drive around Kailua and look at areas where we might look at houses after the holidays (nobody is showing right now.)  And take Mika to her first Hawaiian beach!  Going to attempt the Honolulu lights at night, and we are grilling Christmas dinner on the beach with our friends Tamara, Woody and their son Rogan.

No photos to post today... but I'll be blogging/posting more soon.
