Ojiichan (Yoshio) Passed away last week at the age of 91. This is a photo of us when we were younger and one of us at Christmas this year. The caregiver had a hard time working the camera so it's a bit blurry. He really lit up whenever Mika was in the room, and told everyone her photo was "very important." He and my dog Jasper were best buds for a while. Jasper would ride around the house and the backyard on his lap in his wheel chair. Many of my memories were chasing him, speedwalking all around Seattle. He was a very fast walker and even when I was in my college volleyball shape I had a hard time keeping up with him. He loved food and "RANIER BEER" and many other memories revolved around good sushi and in his later years, his love for pizza hut and mcdonalds. hahahaha. Mom got her fair share of Pizza Hut.
Thanks to Michael and my mom (and a couple of caregivers that I had a hard time saying goodbye to- Diana and Julius esp.) he left us in a peaceful and happy place. We'll miss him, but he told Mom that Obaachan was with him and he was going to a nice place.
Ojiichan's comments on those walks were: "Jennie walks so fast that I couldn't keep up with her." So you were both racing each other, it seems. You walked all the way to the Seattle Center and back, right? He was such an athlete in his youth. He never boasted about it, so we seldom thought of him as a swimmer or a mountain climber.
